How Byju’s Came Up With The Idea To Build A Massive Online Education Platform

online education platform

With the growing number of startups in India, it is certainly not surprising to see more education startups emerging in the market to provide a digital learning environment. Currently, there are around four dozen startups that have created their very own educational applications Byjus learning app. Being a startup, my friend Hritik wanted to learn more about how they plan to revolutionize the field of education. Hence, we had a long discussion about Byju's Raveendran, CEO of Byju’s, an online education platform with over 40 million registered learners from India and abroad, and has been serving millions of students with their educational content. Here's what we had discussed to get an inside look into the unique way Byju's came up with the idea of creating their education platform. How Did Byju’s Come Up With The Idea Of An Online Education Platform?

What makes BYJU different?

Keeping in line with the rapid evolution of education, India-based education startup Byju’s is also a part of this transformation. Byju’s provides education programs to the students of classes 9 to 12. Byju’s has recently made an announcement of shutting down all the activities in the Indian education market. This step has been taken by the company in the light of continued losses incurred by it due to its expensive education solutions. Interestingly, there were few companies that were in the business of providing online education but have failed to flourish in the industry due to the high costs associated with the services.

Byju’s is different as it is offering its solutions at very cheap prices.

The learning management system (LMS) company, BYJU's, is helping students acquire knowledge and insights into their niche subjects through their online platform. They provide a proprietary platform to help students learn at a very efficient pace.

They do this by employing a proprietary LMS, with study videos, textbooks, quizzes, discussion forums, tutorials, and practicals to ensure that students learn at their own pace.

They have a team of expert tutors to answer students' queries, thus enabling them to focus on learning instead of managing the workload. In addition to this, students can access resources that are trending, relevant, and useful for them. They are offered an opportunity to ask questions and share their feedback directly with BYJU's expert tutors.

However, in India, there are around 25 million students, who are unable to avail the benefits of such a platform. To bring the best of content to students who are not as tech-savvy, Byju’s, India’s largest ed-tech company, has built an online platform for learning with over 80% ad-free content. The company launched its product, BYJU'S Learn, for Class I to X students in 2016. With 800 learning centers across India, BYJU'S Learn has already impacted over 10 million students.

Byju’s idea to create an online education platform can be considered a success story in itself. In 2012, Byju founded the company with the objective to provide the best education programs for students at pocket-friendly prices. Byju’s offers its services in two segments – study videos and the complete education platform.

The learning study videos are available in four subjects – English, Maths, Science, and Physics, and are delivered at a much lower cost compared to the other education solution providers. Byju’s videos have a duration of three to six minutes, which makes them ideal for students of classes 9 and 10. Byju is also providing a complete education platform, which includes a software application byjus learning app and other devices.

Byju Raveendran, the founder of the educational startup has earned the reputation of a smart and creative individual. Apart from being an IT specialist, he has also worked in the IT department of Siemens. Apart from the first one, his other pastimes include water sports, running, golf, etc., and studying. Byju had set up the startup to help the students of classes 9-12 with their studies.

After a few years, Byju finally entered the Indian education market by launching “Byju's Blueprint for the Future of Education". The company had secured funding from investors like Sequoia Capital and others. As per Starters' CFO, it was recently valued at $16.5 billion. The company also had offers from organizations like Flipkart, an online e-commerce giant. It was through this deal that the company finally got the platform that it deserved.

Challenges Faced By Byju’s

We all know that going online in today’s world means entering a never-ending maze of low-quality content; it becomes quite tough to discover what’s best for our children. Even parents are not aware of the right learning methods to cater to the needs of their kids.

On the other hand, most of the time, the information that is available is either not relevant or is missing key points, so how could we learn anything? Byju’s is a digital learning company based out of Bengaluru that uses AI to enable personalized learning and a personalized learning experience for every student through its online platform and learning app byjus learning.

What The Future Holds For Byju’s

When Mr. Byju Raveendran started Byju’s, he did so with a vision that a billion kids in India can learn from the comfort of their homes in the era of digital learning. Today, the company boasts of an 18X growth rate, with 45 million students across 180 countries.

The online education company is witnessing an increase in the number of international students signing up. The fact that Byju's offers free high-quality education to students is its most attractive factor. This is also their biggest source of revenue, with an investment of Rs. 5,000 crore and 100% salary equity for its own employees.

Final Thoughts
